Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: paprika or chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.

  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour to create a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.

  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  5. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until well combined.

  7. Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

  8. In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with a tablespoon of melted butter until evenly coated.

  9. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the macaroni and cheese.

  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

  11. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

  12. Optionally, garnish with a sprinkle of paprika or chopped parsley for extra flavor and presentation.

  13. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious breaded mac and cheese bake!
